Manta Rays make a big splash at home meet

MOSES LAKE - Manta Ray Aquatics Swim Team hosted their first home swim meet of the season in the newly remodeled pool facility at Moses Lake High School over the weekend.

13 teams from Washington, Oregon and Idaho with around 300 athletes participated in the 1st Annual Moses Lake Open. The event was a great success due in large part by all the amazing volunteers that graciously donated their time to help run the meet.

Competing Manta Ray swimmers were; Anthony and Azzy Alvarez, Jackson and Nathan Aronsohn, Dylan Bond, Max Boruff, Lore'Ena Bush, Abby Byington, Anniston and Cora Dana, Noah Heaps, Kameron Jensen, Zackary Johnston, Cole Lindberg, Alex McLain, Jordan and Kade Pack, Issac and Tanner Patten, Luke Phillips, Brittney Richeson, Christopher Vidrine, Megan and Zachary Washburn, Jessica Williams and Ian Wiseman.

All Manta Ray swimmers achieved "Best Times," and several qualified for Inland Empire Champs as well as a few National Championship meets.

Kameron Jensen, age 6, and Max Boruff, age 12, competed in their first meet and achieved official times in their events. Lore'Ena Bush, Kade Pack, Brittney Richeson and Dylan Bond all had a "Break-out" meet. Lore'Ena dropped 1:27.33 seconds over 4 events.

Kade dropped 1:31.22 over 4 events, Brittney 1:16.19 over 3 events and Dylan with a drop of 1:08.31 over 3 events.

Zackary Johnston won the "Boys' 15 & Over" High Point Award with 1st place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 400 Individual Medley, and finished in the Top 3 in all of his other events. Zachary Washburn won the "Boys 11-12" High Point Award with 1st place finishes in the 100 I.M.; 50, 100, 200, 1000, & 1650 freestyle; 50, and 100 butterfly, and Top 3 finishes in his two other events. Although the Manta Rays were one of the smaller teams to participate in the meet, they still had five Relay Team finishes in the Top 5.
