Hector R. Gonzalez

| November 26, 2014 5:00 AM

Hector R. Gonzalez, "El Toro" our beloved husband, father and papa passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Nov. 22, 2014, at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. He was born in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico on Sept. 23, 1935 to Maria Isabel Gonzalez Ramirez and Ventura Gonzalez. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 17. He worked as an agricultural laborer and foreman throughout the Columbia Basin and in various construction jobs like MLHS, Grant County Jail, I-90 corridor, Hanford and in the Spokane and Seattle area. He met his beautiful wife, Rosa Gonzalez Medrano in 1960 and they were married at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on June 14, 1963. Together they raised three children.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, he loved fishing, camping and gardening. His cactus plants were one of his most prized possessions. His collection includes two Magueys that are over 45 years old and continue to multiply. Our Dad had such a big heart and was so very generous. He was always one to count on without hesitation when family and friends needed help with something like laying concrete down for a patio or driveway or home improvement projects.

Our Dad received a kidney transplant on Good Friday, March 29, 2002 and he was blessed with 12 additional, beautiful years with us. He will be deeply missed! He was the best Papa in the whole wide world; he held the best old school Paco games with his compadres and friends. We will miss his amazing barbaquoa, menudo, bbq ribs and catfish soup.

Hector is survived by his beautiful wife, Rosa Gonzalez Medrano, his three children, Gregory R. Gonzalez, Dorothy(Juventino, Jr.) Alvarado Gonzalez and Patricia (Francisco) Martinez Gonzalez, as well as seven grandchildren, Isavel, Tyson, Tiffany, Javier, Brianna, Jacquelynn and Gabriel, and three great grandchildren, Aubree Lynn, Emah and Masen. We will cherish his loving memory always and forever. A very special thank you to Dr. Carson and team and all of the Nurses from 5 North and 8 South at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane for supporting our family throughout the years. A very special thank you to our niece Isavel M. Alvarado who took care of our Dad from the age of 15 and who unselfishly and unconditionally was by his side until the very end.

He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved sister Amparo Gonzalez, and brother Manuel Gonzalez.
