ROYAL CITY - Royal Organic Products (ROP), which will exhibit and present at the Nov. 12-13 Pacific Northwest Vegetable Association Conference & Trade Show in Kennewick, has received news that Compell, its pelletized compost, is doing better than expected.

According to research results from world renowned soil health scientist Dr. Jill Clapperton, Compell natural compost pellets produce significantly increased yields in Barley, Canola and Wheat

At a recent research field day in August near Reardan, of various crop test plots including wheat, barley and canola, Dr. Clapperton had indicated that the preliminary results of the trials were very promising, Royal Organics President Thad Schutt said.

However, Schutt added, new year-end results of research trials were even better than projected.

According to Dr. Clapperton, Compell natural compost pellets caused a 31 percent increase in Canola yields and improved yields in Barley by 29 percent. Additionally, previous recent research results from Dr. Clapperton showed about a 24 percent increase in yields in wheat.

"These major increases in yields, as a result of Compell, reinforce why I have begun using it as part of my standard cropping practice on all crops," stated Dr. Clapperton.

Royal Organic Products is counting on Compell for its future. Its commercial success will mean new jobs, Schutt said. ROP is constructing a production plant.

According to Schutt, Compell specifically treats the seed zone and root zone and increases microbiological activity and soil respiration.

He said it provides a slow release of nutrients and retains nutrients longer in soils, and soils better retain water.

Royal Organics' proprietary process compresses and condenses natural compost into a high potency dry compost pellet (Compell) which retains the microbiology and other positive aspects of the material. According to Schutt, Compell is compliant with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), saying it contains no biosolids nor animal manures.

Schutt will speak about the product at the Vegetable Conference & Trade Show at Three Rivers Convention Center, Kennewick. He will make his presentation at 12:05 p.m. on Nov. 13.

Royal Organic will present again on Jan. 20-22 at the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed & Oilseed Conference at Three Rivers. On Jan. 20, at 1:45 p.m., Schutt will present "Soil amendments that are maximizing moisture and yields". Dr. Clapperton will speak on Jan. 21, at 8 a.m. about "How to build healthy and resilient soils".
