MATTAWA - The Wahluke and Royal volleyball teams had a tough season in 2014. So it may be fitting that they finished against each other last week.

Wahluke, which won the earlier meeting at Royal in five games, won this time in four hotly contested games. The final game scores were 25-20, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-21.

Earlier, Wahluke lost in three games to Connell. The scores were 8-25, 5-25 and 3-25.

"Monday was a difficult game," coach Rudi Christian said. "The girls tried their best but were unable to successfully attack against Connell's strong defense. There were some good volleys between the teams, but Connell's powerful offense was very dominating."

The Warriors had few highlights to mention. Maripaz Olivarez had seven digs and two kills. Morgan Peterson had five kills and one dig.

Tuesday was a different matter. The evenly matched teams battled to the final point of the fourth game.

"It was a great way to end the season," Christian said. "I am proud of how the team worked together and played hard."

Olivarez had 10 kills and eight digs with three perfect passes. Peterson had seven kills and three blocks.

Diane Cruz Served 19-21 and had nine digs and two perfect passes. Abby Yorgesen served 12-13 and had four kills. Diana Silverio had six digs and two perfect passes.
