ROYAL CITY - With two games left in the regular season, Royal High School has qualified for the SCAC girls soccer district tournament.

The Knights defeated Granger, 1-0, in a crucial contest last week. Freshman Yajaira Michel scored 25 minutes into the game, and the defense made that goal hold up. No saves were required from keeper Guadalupe Guadarrama.

On the scoring play, mid-fielder Jacky Guadarrama played the ball wide to Elsie Delgado. Delgado pulled the outside defender to her and opened up space for Michel to run into, and she beat the last man and keeper to score at the far post.

"We are finally at the point in the season where we are doing good things and showing good patterns of play on purpose," coach Jens Jensen said.

The win guarantees that Royal will finish in at least 3rd place and get the last spot into districts. First, there will be a final league match against Warden at home on Tuesday.

"We are happy with the progress we have seen from the girls this season," Jensen said. "The girls put in a good shift tonight and showed that they deserved and wanted the win."
