American Legion Riders honor fallen veterans
MOSES LAKE - Families and veterans gathered at the Pioneer Memorial Services Cemetery Memorial Day to honor those who died after serving their country.
The American Legion Riders Post 209, along with the American Legion Women Auxiliary, organized the event to honor fallen veterans for their Memorial Day ceremony in Moses Lake. Dozens of people, including families of departed soldiers, and local veterans, were on hand.
"We meet today with services rendered and comrades made," Felix Ramon said, American Legion member and former Grant County sheriff. "Their memories are imprinted in our hearts."
Flags were placed on veterans' graves by Moses Lake Boy Scouts. About 1,000 flags were brought to graves at several cemeteries throughout Moses Lake.
The American Legion Women Auxiliary brought a ceremonial wreath to the cemetery memorial, honoring fallen veterans who have "preserved the American way of life," Ramon said
Richard Radder, commander of Post 209 and serving as chaplain for the event, called the longtime event a "moment of remembrance" and a tribute for those who have passed.
The Memorial Day event included a 21 gun salute by Legion members and the playing of "Taps."
The American Legion Riders Post 209 was one of the first groups in the state. Post 209 is known for their charitable work in raising money for local community services and veterans, and visiting veterans at their homes, Radder said.
