MOSES LAKE - A 25-year-old man is presumed dead after jumping into Moses Lake while fleeing police during a DUI arrest Sunday morning.

Moses Lake Police had stopped a Toyota pickup truck about 3 a.m. on North Stratford Road and Knolls Vista Drive. As the officer was taking the driver into custody for DUI, the man pulled away and ran from the officer into the brush along the shoreline. The man reportedly dove into the lake as officers approached, according to Capt. Dave Sands.

Two officers entered the water in an attempt to rescue the man, who was in distress. The officers were unable to reach the man and he has not yet been located and is presumed dead.

The name of the man is being withheld pending family notification.
