Moses Lake High School top 10 announced

MOSES LAKE - High school officials announced the top 10 students in the Moses Lake High School class of 2014.

They are Conner Uhlinger, Armando Rojas, Sierra Gallaway, Carina LeFave, Perla Bravo, Christiane Phillips, Dorothy Catey, Molly Hammer, Emily Ennis and Kyley Lanning.

Uhlinger was active as a Gear Up tutor, in the high school's Key Club, won senior awards from the math department and language department. His senior project was serving as an ambassador to Moses Lake's sister city, Yonezawa, Japan. He plans to attend Western Washington University, he said, and major in linguistics.

Rojas was in the school's Link Crew (where upperclassmen help freshmen adjust to the high school), Key Club, and the national math honor society. He won senior awards from the history, Spanish and AP class departments. He plans to attend Stanford, but hasn't decided on a major, he said.

Gallaway was a member of the school's National Honor Society chapter, the math honor society, Link Crew, was on the school's tennis team and received a science department senior award. She said she will attend Washington State University, at the Honors College, and plans to major in neurology.

LeFave is a member of National Honor Society, math honor society and Link Crew. She played varsity volleyball, tennis and basketball and was the school's Big 9 player of the year. She will attend Wenatchee Valley College on a volleyball scholarship, she said, and plans to major in environmental science and natural resource management.

Bravo is in the school's Avid program, in Link Crew, the Ambassadors Club, National Honor Society and the math national honor society. She plans to enroll in a double major, Spanish and the pre-med program at the University of Washington. In pre-med she wants to focus on pediatric oncology, she said.

Phillips was a member of chamber choir, National Honor Society, the math national honor society, Key Club and received the English department senior award. She is the high school's only National Merit Scholar in 2014. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and enroll in the pre-med program, studying biochemistry.

Catey was on the math team, played soccer, tennis and cross-country, is in the National Honor Society and math honor society chapters, won a senior award from the math department, and holds a job. She plans to attend the University of Idaho and study chemical engineering.

Hammer is in the National Honor Society, in choral choir and on the swim team, and won the English department award. She plans to attend University of Washington and major in the social sciences, she said.

Ennis is in National Honor Society, played golf, and took nine advanced placement classes, along with an out of school job. She said she plans to attend Washington State University and major in international business.

Lanning was in FFA, Key Club, the National Honor Society, the national math honor society and math team, and won the agriculture department senior award. She also has a job. She said she will attend the University of Montana, Missoula, and hasn't decided on a major.
