Body of Ephrata father found in irrigation canal

Update: The Grant County Coroner has confirmed the body found was Scott Kolves.

COULEE CITY - A body found Monday in an irrigation canal above Summer Falls Dam is believed to be Scott Kolves, of Ephrata, who went missing in March when his truck went into the canal.

An irrigation district employee located Kolves not far from where the pickup truck Kolves and his three sons were in plunged into the canal March 30. The family was reportedly on a fishing trip.

Kolves, 45, and his 8-year-old son, Korey, died in the incident. Korey's two brothers, ages 10 and 12, were rescued from the canal by two nearby fishermen. Korey's body was found downstream by law enforcement and CPR efforts were unsuccessful.

Search and rescue crews searched extensively for Kolves for about two days following the incident, drawing down the water level and stopping the flow in the canal.

The 10-year-old is believed to have been driving Kolves' pickup truck when it went into the canal. Kolves was reportedly teaching his son how to drive and unable to stop the truck from going into the canal.

"Scott Kolves' family and loved ones have suffered while awaiting this recovery, and I pray they can find peace knowing we have found Scott's body," Sheriff Tom Jones said.

Kolves worked with the Ephrata School District for 14 years in security and also as a teacher's aide helping special needs students. About 250 people attended Korey Kolve's memorial service.
