Royal's Brea Diaz wins state title
ROYAL CITY - Royal High School's Brea Diaz has won the Washington State Wrestling Association freestyle girls state championship at 139 pounds
The competition was held the weekend of May 3 at the Tacoma Dome. Diaz wrestled under the banner of the Othello Wrestling Club, which is coached by Royal High counselor Mark Kondo.
Tatum Sparks, of Othello and the same club, won the state championship at 148 pounds. Her father, Linious Sparks, was a two-time state champion for Royal.
Diaz has been training with Sparks in Othello again this spring as she did last spring and summer. With her state championship, she has again qualified to wrestle in the USA Wrestling National Freestyle Championships in Fargo, North Dakota in July.
Diaz could use a financial boost to get to Fargo. Persons willing to help may contact Diaz directly or Kondo.
Diaz was dominant at Tacoma. She pinned Sara Angelo of Thunder Wrestling in 5:43. She pinned Bethany Davis of Team Tech Fall in 2:52.
