ROYAL CITY - For the first time this year, the Royal High boys golf team had all four individuals scoring 95 strokes or less.

That resulted in a team 370 and victory over Warden with 404. But it wasn't as good as LaSalle's 345.

The individual scoring was Collin Christensen - 89, Clifford Lester - 93, Josh Solis - 95, Carter Christensen - 95 (personal best), Nelson Ramirez - 100 and Austin Walz - 101.

"It was a good week for our kids," coach Pete Christensen said.

The match was played from the front tee boxes at the Yakima Country Club, the course considered toughest in the Yakima Valley.

"It was good for our kids to have a good experience on a very challenging course." Christensen said. "It was satisfying to see our scoring become a bit more tightly grouped together."

The Knights look forward to their match at Suncadia's Rope Rider course on Tuesday. It will be good warm-up match for district, which will be on the same course the following Tuesday.

"It is fun to watch the growth of these guys, and I am hoping to finish strong so we can compete well in the district match on May 20," Christensen said.

The Royal girls also played the YCC's front tees. Their scoring was Carley Smith - 110, Allison Joslin - 129, Lauren Pratt - 131 and Amanda Conger - 132.

"The girls are showing improvements every match," Christensen. "Watching them in the matches you can see the improvements they are making for the year."

The girls actually won this match by forfeit. They were the only team with enough participants to have an official score.
