The Icicle Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited organized a meeting called the Salmon Summit this past Wednesday, and they did a great job of lining up a terrific roster of speakers. There was a good crowd at the Chelan County PUD Auditorium, and they were brought up to date on a variety of topics.

Presentations by both Grant County PUD and Chelan County PUD gave a clear picture of what has been done for fish passage, and it is clear that the spring salmon returning upriver are going over both Wanapum and Rock Island with ease. There were presentations on the state of fisheries, the economic impact of our sport fisheries, enforcement, habitat improvements, the salmon and steelhead endorsement program and more.

Saving the best for last, Jeff Korth, of the Department of Fish and Wildlife told everyone that it looks like we will have the first Wenatchee River spring salmon since the 80s. It looks like there will be plenty unclipped fish returning this year to allow fishing.

Look for an announcement about the opening of both the Wenatchee and the Icicle in late May or early June.
