EPHRATA - Grant County Public Records Officer Melissa McKnight said that she wants to bring openness and customer service to the tax assessor's office.

She announced this week she is running for the position.

"I believe in transparency in government and providing high levels of customer service," McKnight stated. "In order to serve the people and provide services, the assessor needs to be in the office so questions and concerns can be addressed promptly."

She is running against current county tax assessor Laure Grammer.

McKnight said as public records' officer, she has to meet deadlines, comply with state laws and knows the importance of working with a group to accomplish goals in a timely manner. She has been a county employee for 23 years.

If elected tax assessor, she would hold "frequent community meetings to address the concerns of citizens," she said.

McKnight said in a release that she has lived in Grant County for 43 years. She graduated from Ephrata High School and earned a business administration degree from Big Bend Community College in 1990.

She is married to Christopher McKnight and has two children.
