Othello splits with Ellensburg, remains tied atop CWAC

ELLENSBURG - The two titans of the CWAC collided recently and it still remains unclear who has the advantage.

Othello and Ellensburg entered Saturday's twin bill undefeated, routing teams along the way, and split both games.

The Huskies (15-1, 17-1) dropped the first game, 3-1, before rallying to take the nightcap by the same score.

Kirsten Quigley scored the only run of the opener for Othello after reaching on a swinging bunt, followed by a double by Madison Martinez.

Ellensburg was able to plate two runners in the second and one in the third.

The 3-1 score held up for the rest of the game as Ellensburg's Ally Burgess and Othello's Dominique Martinez didn't allow a run the rest of the way.

Dominique finished with seven strikeouts.

Madison was 2 for 3 with a double and Diamond Franco was 2 for 4.

Othello was able to take an early lead in the nightcap after scoring three runs in the first inning. Franco started the rally for the Huskies with a triple and was able to score after a sacrifice by Dominique.

Quigley walked and was driven in on a double by Madison. The scoring was capped after Madison scored off a sacrifice by Holly Fleshman.

The Bulldogs scored their lone run in the third inning on an inside the park home run after an Othello throwing error that sent the ball into the outfield.

Franco, Quigley and Madison recorded two hits each. Madison also finished with six strikeouts.

Othello closes its season against Toppenish (2-14, 2-16) at home May 15. Ellensburg will finish the regular season at home against East Valley (Yakima) (8-6, 9-7).

Warden takes nonleague game against Kittitas

WARDEN - Cougar softball (8-2, 14-2) pushed their win streak to three games after defeating Kittitas, 19-3.

Aaliyah Enriquez struck out six batters in three innings of work.

Lexy Pruneda led Warden with three hits, a double and a stolen base. BryLee Whitney was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.

Warden head coach Wes Richins said his team was aggressive against Kittitas' pitching and took advantage of fielding errors.

The Cougars will conclude SCAC play today on the road against Wahluke before ending their regular season May 17 against Cle Elum-Roslyn.

Around the Basin

Ephrata (6-10, 7-11) grabbed a pair of 19-1 wins over Grandview. The Tigers have won four out of their last six games and will end the regular season at home against Wapato May 15. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Ephrata currently holds the final playoff spot in the District 5 2A Softball Tournament.

Quincy (4-10, 7-13) ended its season with a split against Chelan. The Jacks took the opener, 8-7, before dropping the nightcap, 16-5.
