EPHRATA — Candidates for federal, local and judicial offices can officially file for office next week.

Filing by mail, a little-used option, began quietly on April 28. Filing for office, in-person and online, begins Monday. Nearly a dozen local races will be on November’s ballot, including all three district court judge positions, county prosecutor and sheriff, as well as county clerk, assessor and auditor, among others. Also on the ballot this year is the 4th District Congressional seat, where Doc Hastings is retiring after 20 years.

In Grant County, candidates filing in person can file at the Grant County Election Department located on the second floor of the courthouse, Room 203, beginning at 8 a.m. May 12, and continue through May 16 at 5 p.m. Electronic filing opens Monday at 9 a.m. and closes Friday at 4 p.m.

At the time of the filing, candidates must be registered to vote in the district they’re seeking to represent.

Candidates may submit a signed request to withdraw their Declaration of Candidacy before 5 p.m. on Monday, May 19. Filing fees, which total 1 percent of one year’s salary for the position, are non-refundable.

For more information on Grant County candidates, contact the Election Department at 509-754-2011 or online at www.co.grant.wa.us and select the “Elections” tab.
