Royal downs Wahluke two times in baseball
MATTAWA - Knowing about Wahluke's first-year baseball program, Royal coach Daren Christensen employed lightly-used players at Wahluke on Saturday.
They got some needed experience and a couple of easy wins too, taking the first game, 17-0, and the second, 18-3.
The first game featured the first career start for junior right-hander Robert Martinez. He responded with a solid effort that led to the shutout.
Martinez had a good day at the plate as well. He batted 2-3 and scored two runs.
Regular Sam Christensen had a great game at the plate, going 4-5 with two triples and six RBI. Regular Aaron Johnson also had a solid day, going 4-4 and scoring two runs. Kai Jenks scored twice and went 2-3 at the plate.
In the second game, Jenks got his first start of the year. He did a good job, allowing three runs in two innings. Senior Johnny Montoya came on in relief and pitched three shutout innings to get the win.
Teddy Mead had a productive game at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBI and scoring two runs. Aaron Johnson continued his hot bat, going 2-3 while scoring two runs.
The Knights finish the season with a home double header tonight against Pateros, which placed at state last year in the B classification.
