Moses Lake hosts first Vintage Market Saturday

MOSES LAKE - Some would classify Shannon Clausen as a junker, or even a picker.

But the Warden resident however, who travels to a handful of vintage shows throughout the region each year, considers herself a treasure hunter.

"I'm always chasing the next show, searching for those one-of-a-kind antique items," she said.

Clausen said she has always loved the vintage, repurposed and farm-fresh look - which is why she goes to so many shows so she can hunt for furniture and other accent items that fit that look.

She said driving to shows was fun, but there were some drawbacks.

"I've gone all over, to Tacoma, Okanogan, Spokane and even to some shows in Oregon," said Clausen. "But it was sometimes frustrating because you're limited to what treasures you could bring home unless you brought a truck."

She said she would also want to go to these shows with friends or family members because they're more fun with company. But not everyone had the time to travel to shows with her.

"I had friends say I wish I could go but I can't take the whole day off to go, because traveling to the shows is sometimes an all-day commitment," Clausen said. "Then I started thinking about how many people in this area have never had the chance to go to a show."

She said she started thinking about bringing a vintage show to the area and eventually came up with the idea for the Fancy Farmgirl Vintage Market. The market takes place this Saturday at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

Clausen said about 40 vendors from Washington, Oregon and Idaho will be at the event. Each vendor was hand selected to make sure their items were high quality and that they fit the show's vintage theme, she said. "There will be a great balance of collectibles and one-of-a-kind items, everything junkers love," said Clausen.

She said vendors will be bringing all sorts of aged furniture, rusty signs, unique planters and other items to the show. And the items will appeal to everyone, said Clausen.

"A lot of women go to these shows typically, but there are some men into it," she said. "A few vendors are actually male and will be bringing some man cave style items as well."

Clausen said vintage is a big trend right now and the show is perfect for people looking to add vintage pieces to their homes.

"So many people are excited and there is such a buzz around the show right now," she said. "This is a great opportunity for people to get pieces for their vintage inspired projects."

Since it's the day before Mother's Day, the show is a great way for mothers and daughters to spend some time together, said Clausen. It's also a good place to pick up any Mother's Day gifts, she said.

The market will be held in the fairground's 4-H building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, and free for kids ages 12 and under.

There will be a food vendor on site as well.
