MOSES LAKE - It's been a good week to be a Chiefs fan.

Just 24 hours after Moses Lake baseball wrapped up a Big Nine championship, Moses Lake girls track completed its undefeated league season and wrapped up a league title of its own.

Entering the final meet of the regular season, the Chiefs were 4-0 and only needed to outscore Davis to secure back-to-back league titles.

The Pirates proved to be no match and Moses Lake cruised to a 120-29 win.

"I think tomorrow when I finally tell them when they're all together because everybody left at all different times during the meet after events were done, they don't know what the results were," girls head coach Nicki Weiland said. "I think they'll be ecstatic that they did it again as a group, worked together and accomplished it again as a team so I'm excited for them. I can't wait to see there expression tomorrow, it'll be great."

Moses Lake boys track was also able to notch its first win of the year, beating Davis 90-50.

The Chiefs girls dominated the track events, taking first place in every race except the 1600 meters.

Alysha Overland took first place in the 100 meters with a time of 12.51 seconds, while her sister, Stephanie Overland finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 27.36 seconds.

Alysha was looking to shave time off her season best 12.38 seconds in the 100 meters, but fell just short. Currently, Alysha's time in the 100 meters is ranked sixth in the state. She is also ranked first in the 200 meters and second in the 400 meters.

In their last home meet, senior Megan Roughan deliverd first and second place finishes in the 3200 meters and 800 meters, respectively.

Fellow senior Caylah Lunning took first in the long jump with a mark of 16' 7.25.

With several tired athletes, Weiland is thankful that the district meet isn't until May 22.

"I think having the next week without a meet will be good for them," she said.

Unlike last season, more athletes will have an opportunity to advance to the state meet as the top two finishers in each event advance.

Weiland is has enjoyed the strategy of trying out athletes in different events.

"It's exciting, kind of chess play," she said.

Sensational freshman Elly Johnson finished first in the discus with a throw of 112' 1.00. Johnson's personal best of 118' 3.00 has her ranked 16th overall in the state and first among fellow freshmen, the next closest being 38th.
