Taste of Home features food, prizes

MOSES LAKE - Tickets are still available for the Taste of Home Cooking School this week.

The national cooking show takes place at the Grant County Fairgrounds on Thursday. It will be the sixth time the Taste of Home show has come to Moses Lake.

The event features a trade show, which starts at 5 p.m. and a cooking demonstration led by former Othello resident Kristi Larson, which starts at 7 p.m. Events take place in the 4-H and Commercial buildings at the fairgrounds.

Each person who attends the show gets a gift bag with coupons, samples and Taste of Home magazines. They will also get the chance to win one of the many prizes being given away during the night, said organizer Tera Redwine, of the Columbia Basin Herald.

Some of the prizes include weekend stays at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, bags of groceries from Safeway and hanging flower baskets from Ace Hardware, she said.

"We're giving away a lot of door prizes that night from sponsors and some of the trade show vendors," said Redwine.

One of the major prizes of the night is a recliner from Furniture West. The Moses Lake furniture store has also helped with past Taste of Home events, she said.

Store Manager Chuck DeMeerleer said Furniture West is excited to be a part of the event this year. DeMeerleer co-managed another furniture store for 15 years in the Moscow/Pullman area before relocating to Moses Lake last October.

Although he is new to the area, Furniture West has been in business in Moses Lake for decades, he said.

The store carries furniture and accessories for virtually every room in someone's house, said DeMeerleer.

"We carry all types of home furnishings- recliners, sofas, mattresses, lamps and other accessories," he said.

Tickets for the Taste of Home event are $12 for general admission and $50 for VIP admission. VIP tickets come with a catered dinner by Michael's, an autographed cookbook and early admittance to the show.

Tickets are available at The Columbia Basin Herald office and Michael's Bistro.
