SPOKANE VALLEY - For a majority of the season, Alysha Overland and Caylah Lunning have been exchanging best times in the 100 meters.

However, at the Strandberg Invite, Overland etched her name into the Moses Lake record books with a time of 24.9 seconds in the 200 meters. Her mark was also a record for that meet.

"Every meet that she goes out she tries to improve her own team and we knew that each meet she was getting closer and closer to the 200 and the 400 record," head coach Nicki Weiland said.

Overland's time ties Jennifer Carpenter, who is as assistant track coach at Moses Lake, for first place all-time in school history for the 200 meters. Carpenter has held the record since 1986.

Overland also improved on her time in the 100 meters, shaving it down to 12.38 seconds (another school record), and set her second meet record in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.57 seconds.

Moses Lake took a light team to the invite due to Senior Ball.

The girls placed seventh with 50 points, while the boys team didn't crack the leaderboard.

Other notable marks included Elly Johnson placing second in the discus with a toss of 118'3". Taylor Yamane set a personal record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.42 seconds, good for fourth place.

"Right now she's (Yamane) seeded number one in our league. It's been the last probably three meets that she's brought her time down," Weiland said. "So it's a lot of hard work on her part and it's been fun to watch that take place."

Casci Carpenter finished eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 37.55 seconds.

Moses Lake girls track currently sits atop the Columbia Basin Big Nine at 4-0 and hosts the final league meet Wednesday at 4 p.m.

"We're focusing on the league right now," Weiland said. "Davis comes Wednesday. If they do super well there then they are the league champs."
