The Lowland Lake fishing opener results are as follows: Warden Lake, number of anglers checked 91, with total number of fish kept 383 and number of fish released 154, making the average number of fish caught per angler at 5.9 and the average number of fish kept per angler at 4.2. The Blue Lake numbers are 74, 234, 32, 3.6 and 3.2.

At Park Lake the numbers look as if the fishing has slumped as the numbers are: 108, 285, 30, 2.9 and 2.6. Deep Lake was second to Warden Lake with these numbers: 62, 200, 65, 4.3 and 3.2. Although Jameson Lake is in Douglas County, many of our readers enjoy the lake. The numbers at Jameson are: 62, 134, 6, 2.3 and 2.2.

Warden is by far the opening day winner. Makes me want to wet a line there.

Hunting

Turkey

Spring wild turkey hunting continues through the entire month of May statewide. Turkey hunters are reminded to report hunting activity after the season closes May 31, unless they plan to also hunt turkeys this fall. The turkey tags unnotched this spring will be useable this fall.

Big game permits

May 22 is the deadline for applying for special fall hunting permits for deer, elk, mountain goat, moose, bighorn sheep and turkey.

From Fish and Wildlife

Banks Lake

Year-round-open Banks Lake is warming up, according to WDFW fish biologist Aulin Smith.

"The trout bite is still decent," Smith said. "Trolling and casting crankbaits, spoons, and spinners, as well as plunking marshmallows and worms off the shoreline, are producing. And net pen releases of 149,000 rainbow trout occurred the last weekend of April."

Good luck and remember, have fun, but be careful out there.
