MOSES LAKE - Community members recently got the chance to meet some of the drivers - and check out the cars - racing in this weekend's Ephrata Raceway Park season opener.

The park will host its first race of the year Saturday. Drivers will compete in various car classes including the V6 Super Cars, a youth division; V6 Supers; mini stocks "A" and "B"; street stocks and 360 sprints.

Some of the drivers who will be participating in the season opener spent their Sunday afternoon in Moses Lake, showing their cars and talking about the work they've put into them with fans. John Ditto, a 360 Sprint driver, said he organized the car show as a way to get the public excited about the park's 2014 season.

Their season goes until September, he said. Ditto said the season includes special weekend events like the Spud Cup, the West Coast Street Stock Series and a weekend featuring North American Big Rigs from Canada.

The season also includes a motocross race series, he said. The races provide county residents with something to do over the summer, said Ditto.

"It's a family-friendly get together," he said.

Gates open during the season at 5 p.m. and races start at 7 p.m. Gates open for the motocross races at noon.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for students, seniors or military and $20 for a family pass. For more information on this year's races, visit www.ephrataracewaypark.com.
