Moses Lake knocks off Panthers

FAIRWOOD - A rocky start to the 2014 campaign for Moses Lake boy's soccer appears to be a thing of the past after the team's second straight win.
The Chiefs traveled to Spokane to face annual non league opponent Mead in the team's first road test of the season.
Behind two second half goals coming about one minute apart from senior forwards Johnny Cortez and Adrian Vasquez, Moses Lake (2-2) moved back to .500 with a 3-0 win against the Panthers.
For a majority of the first half the teams were held scoreless until senior Andrew Camren was able to beat the Mead goalkeeper off an assist from Cortez just minutes before halftime.
Moses Lake notched a pair of goals in the second half and the Chief defense remained stout to keep the Panthers from threatening to cut into the deficit.
It was Moses Lake's first shut out of the year. Something the team has to be proud of after allowing goals in key situations in the losses against Ellensburg and Lewis and Clark.
So far, Vasquez has scored a team-high five goals this season and has recorded a goal in every game except against Lewis and Clark.
Seniors Sean Cotton and Camren each have three goals while Cortez has scored twice.
Moses Lake returns to the pitch April 4 for its final non league game on the road against Mt. Spokane.
