Good SCAC start for Warrior soccer

MATTAWA - If last week was an indication, Wahluke High School will again compete at the highest level of South Central A Conference soccer.

The Warriors dropped their opener on the road, but it was an exicting 2-0 dual with Highland, which represented the league at state last year. Highland scored early, and the score was 1-0 until Wahluke had to take some chances in the final minutes.

"We were pushing (moving the entire team forward) for a goal, and they scored on a counter," coach Arthur deVictoria said. "They were one-on-one with our keeper."

"We played well, but Highland played a better game than we did," deVictoria added. "Highland is very difficult to beat at Highland. I don't believe that we have won there in the last two or three years."

Wahluke's field is also a tough place for visitors to win. It proved out again last week when the Warriors won their second game, 7-0, over Naches.

Naches is a young team, and Wahluke was able to have its junior varsity play most of the game. Freshmen Emmanuel Hidalgo and Erick Perez scored one goal each. Junior Luis Veloz scored one.

Senior Ramon Bravo scored two goals, senior Charlie Ramos scored one and senior Alex Anaya scored one.
