MOSES LAKE - One person was arrested Monday in connection to an arson fire Sunday afternoon that destroyed an unoccupied building west of Moses Lake.

The sheriff's office confirmed one person was booked into Grant County Jail Monday after being arrested outside of Grant County. The suspect's identity was not released Monday. More details on the arrest are expected to be released Tuesday.

Sunday's incident started when Grant County Fire District No. 5 and sheriff's deputies were called about 3:30 p.m. to a report of a structure fire on Road 4 Northeast in Mae Valley. A 40-foot by 120-foot building was fully involved when crews arrived, according to the sheriff's office.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, which completely destroyed the building.

A neighbor told the Columbia Basin Herald a white Kia sedan was seen speeding off from the property just before the fire started.

The building, which is owned by Pedro Ciganda of Moses Lake, originally served as an old Army barracks, which was relocated to the current site many years ago. The building was unoccupied and uninhabitable before the fire, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office and county Fire Marshal's Office investigated the incident.

Anyone with more information on the investigation is asked to call 509-762-1160 or send information to crimetips@co.grant.wa.us, reference case number 14GS03147. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
