LEWISTON - The Moses Lake High School #2 tennis doubles team of Chad Palmer and Tyler Ward won the Lewiston/Clarkston Invitation over the weekend in Idaho.

Ward and Palmer won the title match 6-4, 1-6, 10-3 in an upset against a team from Timberline High School, located in Boise, ID.

Chiefs Coach Richard Gregoire said the duo played relaxed and hit great shots in the final match.

"Chad and Tyler really got better as the tournament went on and gained great match experience in playing six matches in two days," he said. "They made adjustments in the net play and stayed positive and really came through against a tough team in the final."

Chiefs girls #3 singles Micayla Friend was 2-2 for the tournament and lost in the championship bracket quarterfinal.

Chiefs #1 boys single Bryan Earl began 0-2, but bounced back in the consolation bracket and made it to the finals before losing. Chiefs #2 boys singles Pedro Barreras went 2-3 for the tournament and lost in the championship bracket.

The tournament had a unique format that included pool play on Friday, with consolation and championship bracket play on Saturday that allowed every participant at least four matches.

Schools from Spokane, the Tri Cities, Boise, and Lewiston participated.

Moses Lake returns to the court Thursday April 3 against Mt. Spokane.
