Soap Lake home damaged in blaze

| March 24, 2014 6:05 AM

SOAP LAKE - A fire Wednesday afternoon severely damaged the roof and attic of a home in Soap Lake.

The Soap Lake Fire Department responded about 4:30 p.m. to a fire at a two-bedroom home at 323 Second Ave. SE that appeared to have started in the attic, according to Fire Chief Brandon Hood.

It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, but not before the roof was completely destroyed. High winds Wednesday afternoon caused the flames to spread throughout the top of the home.

Hood said there was also water and fire damage to the back side of the home and the kitchen. The attic was completely destroyed. Nobody was inside at the time.

A resident at the home was reportedly working in the attic and left for a brief period when the fire ignited, Hood said. An electrical extension cord found in the attic plugged in may have caused the fire.

Grant County Fire District No. 7 provided mutual aid.
