MOSES LAKE - A new two-day workshop teaching project management skills is scheduled for April 18 and 19 at Big Bend Community College.

"Local employers have been requesting this type of training," college spokesperson Doug Sly said. "It's a specific set of skills," said Jaxson Riley, coordinator of the college's Center for Business and Industry Services.

Workshop instructors will be Kay Bachman and Chris Gill. Gill said project management is a "structured methodology for delivering project-based work, according to pre-defined requirements and with careful planning."

Bachman and Gill have worked with project managers, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, in teaching their techniques, Jaxson said.

Workshop participants will go from proposal to done project, Riley said, using a theoretical proposal with applications in real business. In this case the workshop will focus on a project that could come up at a local manufacturer, she said.

The idea is to detail and discuss the ideas of project management and put them into practice in the theoretical exercise, Riley said.

Participants will learn about estimating time and cost, developing work schedules and the steps to the completed project.

The cost of the class includes lunch included both days. Class size is limited. For more information, call Riley, 509-793-2425, or email jaxonr@bigbend.edu to register.
