KENNEWICK - Moses Lake baseball kicked off its season at the Southridge Jamboree recently.

The Chiefs fell to Walla Walla in their first game, 3-1, before rebounding to defeat Southridge, 2-1.

Although the team only played six total innings head coach Quintz Whitaker believed that the competition was valuable.

"Get a chance to get out on the field and see another team across from us," he said.

Whitaker thought the Chiefs looked a little sloppy defensively against Walla Walla, but the offense was solid with nine hits in six total innings.

Moses Lake will play its first full game today against Mt. Spokane, 4 p.m., at Larson Field. Whitaker said he wasn't too familiar with Mt. Spokane, but said that the two teams squared off over the summer.

Mt. Spokane does boast an ace by the name of Drew Rasmussen. Rasmussen has a high velocity on his fastball and has signed to play for Oregon State University next season.
