Grant PUD contractor designing drilling platform

BEVERLY — Grant County PUD contractor Kuney-Goebel JV is designing a drilling platform to repair the cracked spillway at Wanapum Dam.
The company determined that a platform would be necessary after weather delayed the investigative drilling last week. The utility is still not sure what caused the crack and is modeling and testing the spillway to determine how best to repair it.
The Wanapum Reservoir is about 26 feet below normal levels and the PUD is only able to generate about half of its electrical output at the dam.
