Dash cams coming for Mattawa police

MATTAWA - There will be more video proof of police activity, particularly traffic stops, in Mattawa in the future.

Police Chief John Turley informed the Mattawa City Council that his department has received a $2,500 grant for the purchase of dashboard cameras. The council approved the purchase, and dash cams will be installed in two patrol vehicles.

Turley also reported that Officer Mike Stump has six weeks remaining in his police academy training.

Public Works Director Gary Crowder told the council the city will go out to bid for an electronic meter reading system. He hopes to be installing it by summer.

Crowder announced that the Lions Club has donated 10 picnic tables for the park. He added that the Esperanza group donated barbecues. The council voted to allow public works to spend $1,000 for needed concrete work.

Mayor Judy Esser reported that he Evans/Thomas property near the Port of Mattawa has been sold. It was annexed into the city several years ago.
