Dog licenses urged in Royal

| March 15, 2014 6:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - If you have an unlicensed dog in Royal City, your bill is mounting.

According to Public Works Director John Lasen, licenses were due on Jan. 1. They cost $10 for fixed dogs, $15 for unfixed.

Dog owners who have failed to license their dogs face an additional charge of $5 per month. A license today would cost at least $20.

"You need to bring a copy of current vaccinations," Lasen said. "The No. 1 reason we have licenses is to control rabies."

Lasen said there is no break for "inside" dogs, as some people believe. They must be licensed.

"The moment they go out the door, they're an outside dog," he said.

Dog licenses are purchased at city hall.
