Moses Lake felon found hiding in dryer

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was found hiding inside a dryer early Friday morning following a standoff at a Moses Lake mobile home park.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office Gang Unit originally responded about 9 p.m. Thursday to arrest Sergio Herrera Jiron, 23, on a warrant for failing to appear for delivery of a controlled substance. When they arrived, Jiron refused to come out and barricaded himself inside the residence.

The Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team was called out and attempted to negotiate Jiron out.

After several hours, flash bangs and gas canisters were deployed inside the trailer. The Tactical Response Team eventually entered the home after 1 a.m. Friday and found Jiron hiding in the clothes dryer, according to the sheriff's office.

Jiron still refused to comply with officers and was shot with a rubber bullet in the hand. He was treated on scene by AMR.

Police reportedly found a 9 mm pistol in plain sight when they entered the home and a charge of felon is possession of a firearm is likely, the sheriff's office said.

Jiron is now booked in Grant County Jail on the warrant.
