Donald (Don) Leon Goodwin

Donald (Don) Leon Goodwin born on October 30, 1931 to William (Bill) and Ida Eccles Goodwin who homesteaded the beloved ranch where Don passed on March 2, 2014. He lived all his 82 years on his ranch in Mae Valley.

Don graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1949 after winning the WA State FFA Star Farmer Award in 1948. He was one of 5 finalist for the American Farmer - highest FFA degree - in 1950. He was a farmer who tended soil and animals most of his life.

Don was also active duty in the US Army October 1953 for 3 month with an honorable hardship discharge when his father died and he returned home to tend the farm.

He was an active broker/salesman of farm properties with brother-in-law Ed Ebel from 1964 to 1976. Followed by four terms (16 years) as Grant County Commissioner District 1, 1976-1992.

Don was a very active supporter of the community:

Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) committeeman - 15 yrs.

Soil Conservation Supervisor 1959-1989.

Soil Conservation District Wildlife Farmer of the year 1995

Active Little League coach 1963-1968

Grant County Rural Fire Dept Dist 5 - 28 years

Committee for the Preservation of Water Rights- Secretary

Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee Chair

BBCC Booster Club member

Don married Shirley Jones May 1953 to which were born Jackie Lynn August 1955 and Rodney Alan Sept 1956.

He married Sally Dorsey Miles on March 2, 1974 with stepson Jeffrey Miles.

Don was survived by his wife, Sally, son Rod (Debra) Goodwin, Moses Lake, grandsons Jared - 18 and Joshua almost 16. Stepson Jeff (Kari-Mae) Miles, Seattle and grandsons Robert-9 and Matthew - 6. Brother-in law Chuck (Martha) Dorsey of Prescott AZ & Nephews Bill (Suzanne) Ebel - Albuquerque NM, Ken (Kathi) Goodwin - Walla Walla, WA, Gary Goodwin Moses Lake, Mike (Carol) Garneau-Moses Lake. Nieces Ann Ebel- Moses Lake, Nanci Goodwin Moses Lake, Leslie Garneau- East Wenatchee, Kim (Mike) Plese- Enumclaw WA, Gloria (Lee) Savage- Moses Lake, Russell Garneau Riverside, CA. Many grandnephews and grandnieces and cousins.

Preceding in death were parents Bill and Ida Goodwin, sister Marge and brother-in-law Ed Ebel, brother Dr R.W. (Bob) and sister-in-law Gayle Goodwin, and daughter Jackie L Goodwin.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and uncles- he will be sorely missed.

Private family burial will be at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Don's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Moses Lake Presbyterian Church, 1142 W. Ivy.
