Though Bill's early years were lived in Kansas, his father's career took them to San Antonio, TX where he graduated Edison High School in 1947. He went on to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech. in 1951. Bill was soon employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. in Borger, TX where he met Carol Evelyn Johanson on a fateful blind date. The two married on March 14, 1952.

In 1956, Bill transferred to the Phillips-owned nuclear reactor in Arco, ID settling his family in nearby Idaho Falls, ID. In the years there, he and Carol welcomed a son, Jeffery Alan and later adopted Carol Elisabeth upon her birth. The family was active in Calvary Baptist Church in Idaho Falls where Bill surrendered his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, his Savior. This relationship gently permeated every arena of his life and was noted by all.

1966 brought another Phillips transfer to Fulton, NY as a plant manager. But, the longing for the Pacific Northwest and the persistence of Basic American Foods Corporation coaxed one final move to Moses Lake, WA as Plant Manager of then, American Potato Company. Bill worked in that capacity from March 1967 to his retirement in the early 1990s.

Outside of work, Bill was active in Emmanuel Baptist Church, Young Life Club leadership, coaching of youth sports, teaching fly-fishing at Camp Wooten, and ultimately joining Moses Lake Alliance Church in 1995. He hosted many back-packing, river rafting, fishing and hunting trips to places near and far; fostering deeply held friendships and fond memories in every endeavor.

Upon retirement he and Carol ventured into part time commercial fishing out of La Push, WA; even receiving a Public Service Award from the US Coast Guard for efforts in rescuing 3 shipwrecked souls from its waters.

The joy of grandchildren and the sunny skies of Moses Lake were reason enough to put the boat into permanent dry dock. Any chance to see his family pursue sports, music, or educational opportunities found him among the spectators giving empowering words of encouragement.

Bill's life of faith and open but relaxed posture of mentorship continued to influence the generations within our family and well, well beyond. Sadly, in August of 2012, he was diagnosed with cancer. It only enhanced his desire to go to his forever home in heaven.

Bill was preceded in death by both parents, three sisters, Letha, Opal, Evelyn and one brother, Miles. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Carol, son Jeff (Cindy) Strole, daughter Elisabeth (Ben) Murrell, brother-in-law Jon (Bobbie) Johanson, sister-in-law Kay (Dick) Herman, nephew David Houck, grandchildren Zachary (Meaghe) Strole, Jonelle (Jerred) Copenhaver, Stephanie Murrell Iapryntsev, Amy Strole, Isaac Murrell, Zach Burris, Isabella Murrell, and great grandchildren Adriana Iapryntsev and the yet expected Macie Copenhaver; due in April.

Bill's warm, steadfast, generous, and dependable character has etched our lives as father and friend with a compelling likeness to our Heavenly Father.
