Ronald Dean Nichols was born to parents Harry and Naomi Nichols at Pratt, Kansas on November 27, 1925. Growing up on the family farm, he attended grade school in the country and later attended Pratt High School in town, where he played football.

In his senior year of high school he left to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on a cargo ship.

After honorable discharge from the military, Ronald returned home and worked as an oil driller near LaCrosse, KS, where he met Allene Hartman of Otis, KS, who was also working at LaCrosse at the time. On June 7, 1947 they wed in Natrona, KS. Pursuing Ronald's work in the oil fields led them to live in eleven different states.

Back in Pratt in 1957, they adopted 17-month old twin boys Warren and Loren.

Different work for Ronald along the Mississippi River brought the family to Louisiana for a year.

Kenneth Griffith, a friend and coworker of Ronald, started an irrigation business in Diamond Valley in northeastern Nevada, landing both families in the town of Eureka, NV. Not long thereafter, the business moved to Elko, NV, where they lived for a duration of six years.

In August 1966, operations moved to Moses Lake, Washington under the names Rent-A-Rain and Irrigation Rental. For numerous years until he retired Ronald made a career of setting up and servicing many farmers' irrigation lines throughout the region.

After retirement, Ronald enjoyed cooking, reading and watching TV. He was a lifetime supporting member of the VFW.

Ronald passed away May 11, 2014 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, WA from health-related issues that had set on. A memorial service is pending. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Warren. He is survived by his other son Loren and by his wife Allene, both of Moses Lake, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
