Tyson Karstetter named to All-State Second Team

MOSES LAKE - Known as the defensive anchor on the Moses Lake baseball team, Tyson Karstetter was named to the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association All-State Second Team Tuesday.
MOSES LAKE - Known as the defensive anchor on the Moses Lake baseball team, Tyson Karstetter was named to the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association All-State Second Team Tuesday.
Karstetter was a key contributor to a Moses Lake team that finished as Columbia Basin Big Nine League Champions and 4A District 6 Champions. Chiefs baseball also compiled a 15-game win streak during the season and made it to the quarterfinals of the 4A State Tournament.
"Obviously he had a great season for us," head coach Quintz Whitaker said. "He was an integral part of our offense."
Karstetter was a tremendous two-way player throughout the season and gobbled up any ball that came near first base. His range kept many errant throws from turning into errors.
As a sophomore, Karstetter even played some outfield due to his length and ability to cover ground in a hurry.
"He's probably been one of the best defensive first basemen I've seen in high school," Whitaker said. "He's a tremendous fielder, as far as he has great range."
More, Columbia Basin River Dogs star Junior Ledgard, of Ellensburg High School, was named the 2A Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the 2A state championship.
