Fire destroys home near Moses Lake Wednesday
MOSES LAKE - A fire late Wednesday morning gutted an elderly man's home just off of state Route 17 near Moses Lake.
Firefighters from Grant County Fire District 5 and the Moses Lake Fire Department were dispatched about 10:30 a.m. to a report of a structure fire at 9276 Maple Drive Northeast. It was unclear at the time of the call if anyone was still inside the house, according to the sheriff's office.
Moses Lake Fire Chief Tom Taylor, who happened to be nearby when the call was sent out, arrived first at the scene and reportedly helped keep an elderly man from going back inside the burning home. The man was not injured in the incident and nobody else was inside at the time.
About 15 firefighters from the district and city were able to bring the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office Motor Traffic Unit, Moses Lake police, American Medical Response and Grant PUD also assisted at the scene.
The older, single-wide manufactured home sustained severe damage. No other structures were damaged in the fire.
The Grant County Fire Marshal's Office was on scene Wednesday to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
