Hi. We are Kassandra Salas, Vanely Ruiz and Janette Ruiz. We are incoming seniors at Royal High School.

We are writing to inform you about a petition we started to keep Royal High School's program STAT because, next year, it is not on the schedule.

STAT stands for STUDENT TEACHER ACCESSIBILITY TIME. It is a program where kids either have intervention or enrichment depending on their grades.

STAT takes place after 2nd period and is a 30-minute class. Students know where to go based on the ticket they receive in their home room class.

Enrichment is where you get to do some of the activities that the school has to offer at the time such as Space Derby, nail art and a drama class.

Intervention is where your ticket says the name of the teacher you have intervention for and are supposed to report to their class to get your grade up or work on a missing assignment, quiz, or something the teacher wants to have you do.

Students and a number of teachers want to keep STAT because it gives students time to work on late assignments or get work done for a class they missed. What many students like to do during STAT is get help in order to comprehend assignments more.

STAT also gives the students time to interact with teachers and do new fun things they haven't done before. For example a space derby that was offered a while ago as enrichment. STAT is also used to hold class meetings, class officer meetings, ASB meetings, assemblies, etc.

Vanely, Janette and I have gone around the school asking for people to sign our petition and have gotten around 200 signatures.

We are also surveying teachers on what they think about STAT. We are taking this petition to the next school board meeting, Monday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. and presenting a power point to them on why we should keep STAT.

The students who will attend are the senior class officers (President Sam Eilers, Vice President Vanely Ruiz, Secretary Rosalexi Rodriguez, Treasurer Kimberly Carrasco, Public Relations Kassandra Salas) and Janette Ruiz. Dr. Eric Carlson will also be attending.
