Combine derby excites Lind
LIND - Every second Saturday in June the town of Lind holds its Super Bowl.
This year, an estimated 5,000 people packed the Lions Club Arena for the 27th annual Lind Combine Demolition Derby.
"It went real well," Mike Doyle said. "As far as spectators, we might've been down just a touch, but overall it went real well ... Bleachers were pretty much full."
A slight breeze Saturday afternoon could've contributed to the slight decrease in fans.
The climax of the event came during the combine demolition derby, and when the dust had settled there was a tie in the championship round.
After tying for first and placing second in the respective heats, Eric Labes and Palmer Phillips were the final combines standing.
Tyler Startin finished in third place.
Labes also took third place in the "best dressed" category after showcasing his combine in the parade Saturday morning.
Seattle's Ed Favilla, who took first place in Heat 2, was named best dressed for his City Slickers inspired combine.
Pickup truck races began Friday night and carried over to Saturday between heats of the combine demolition derby.
Drivers from Seattle, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Ritzville, Othello, Spangle and Lind all participated in this year's event.
