Winston Dean Bousman
Winston Dean Bousman, 67, went to be with the Lord at 5:30 a.m. while at home on June 8, 2014 in Moses Lake, Wash., after a courageous battle with skin cancer. Dean was born on April 4, 1947 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of Charles and Pattie (Hearne) Bousman.
He ran hurdles in track and played football in high school where he was nicknamed "Crazy legs Bousman." Dean graduated from Page High School in Page, Ariz. in 1965. Later that year, Dean enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and he served his country honorably. He graduated from Boot Camp second in his class of 66 Marine recruits in Camp Pendleton, Calif. Due to his bravery during the Vietnam war, he was awarded several medals, including: Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. The convoys that he drove in were often ambushed, and he was injured when his own vehicle was blown up. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 18, 1971, after serving for 4 years active duty and 2 years in the Marine Corps Reserve.
After Vietnam, Dean married Gwendolyn Marie Cornett on June 17, 1972 in First Baptist Church in Pasco, Wash.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Missions from Western Baptist College in Salem, Oreg. in 1974. And in 1987, he earned a Master of Biblical Studies from Northwest Baptist Seminary in Tacoma, Wash.
As a teen, Dean gave his life over to Christ and decided to into the ministry. As a result, Dean worked as senior pastor for six churches including:
- Burbank Baptist Church in Burbank, Wash. (1976-1978)
- Orting Community Baptist Church in Orting, Wash. (1980-1988)
- Faith Baptist Church in Auburn, Wash. (1989-1999)
- Tillicum Baptist Church in Lakewood, Wash. (1999-2005)
- Lone Rock Chapel in Seabeck, Wash. (2006-2008)
- Elk Creek Community Bible Church in Elk Creek, Wash. (2008-2013)
Dean is survived by his wife Gwen Bousman, daughter and son-in-law Hannah and Todd Welch all of Moses Lake, Wash., daughter and son-in-law Kimberlee and Chris Hertzer of Plano, Texas; daughter Sarah Bousman of Aurora, Colo., son Joshua Bousman of Plano, Texas; grandchildren: Sam, Emma and Owen Welch of Moses Lake, Wash., Nicholas and Lily Hertzer of Plano, Texas; mother Pattie Strand of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; brother Steve Bousman of Star Valley, Ariz., sister Resa Moore of Mesa, Ariz., brother Doug Bousman of Phoenix, Ariz. and sister Tena Stephan of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Marion Bousman and son Timothy Charles Bousman.
Burial with Military Honors was in the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Medical Lake, Wash. on June 11, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1 :00 p.m. in Orting Community Baptist Church in Orting, Wash.
Dean will be missed dearly, but we live in faith and peace that we will be reunited with him again when we see the Lord.
