QUINCY - Bagged ice manufacturer Lynden Ice will have its new Quincy facility up and running by the end of July, according to company officials.

The Quincy facility will add anywhere from nine to 12 full time jobs.

The Lynden-based company first expressed interest in expanding to Quincy last year, Port of Quincy Commissioner Pat Connelly said.

"They came to us looking for property to build a new facility, and we had several different options for them," he said.

One of those options was having Lynden Ice lease an existing building rather than build their own. Connelly said they knew Columbia Colstor had an available building and connected the two companies.

"We put them in touch to try and see if they could get up and running quicker that way and it worked out for the both of them," he said. "We were glad to help facilitate that."

Connelly said the company's move to Quincy is good news for the area.

"We're glad to have them come and add diversity in Quincy," he said.

"They've been broadening their customer base quite a bit and there's nothing like that around here, so we're happy to have them."

Lynden Ice was established in 1985, according to a recent news release. At the time, the company had 12 customers.

They have since expanded and now have about 500 customers in Western Washington and about 300 customers in eastern Washington and northeastern Oregon.

Their home facility in Lynden currently produces 110 tons of ice a day. The company's Quincy facility will be able to produce 210 tons of ice each day.

The new facility will also allow Lynden Ice to increase its customer base in the eastern part of the state. The company anticipates reaching a customer base of 600 in the region in the next five years.
