MOSES LAKE - Summer school will be June 16 through July 25 at the new Columbia Basin Skills Center. Classes will be open to students in the 11-school consortium.

The consortium includes Grand Coulee, Ephrata, Quincy, Othello, Almira/Coulee-Hartline, Warden, Soap Lake, Wilson Creek, Royal City and Wahluke as well as Moses Lake. Unlike most summer school classes the skills center will run a Monday through Friday schedule, said Dave Balcom, the district's director of student services.

Moses Lake High School will offer summer school for students looking to make up credits from June 23 to July 24. Classes will be Tuesday through Thursday.

Most summer school students are signing up to complete credits they didn't finish during the school year, Balcom said. The number of students registering for summer school increased, Balcom said. Some of the increase is coming from students wanting to take classes in advance of the schedule change at the high school, he said.

The district will offer a separate summer school program for high school students from Columbia Basin Secondary School, Balcom said. Those classes will be June 16 to July 24 at Frontier Middle School. Class schedule is Tuesday through Thursday.

Summer school for students in the migrant program is scheduled for June 16 through July 25, with classes Monday through Thursday.

Moses Lake doesn't offer summer school for elementary students, Balcom said, although there is a learning program as part of the 21st Century grant at North and Larson Heights elementary schools.

Summer school in Quincy will be June 23 through July 18 for all students, kindergarten through high school. At the high school level, summer classes focus on math and English or writing credits, but instruction in other subjects is available, according to the high school website.

Othello summer school sessions will start June 16 for all students, elementary school and high school. Elementary summer school ends July 11, and for high school students on July 18.

The Ephrata School District offers credit retrieval classes for high school students. Parents who want more information can contact the district office.
