Chiefs girls track 13th in state
Moses Lake MLHS Chiefs Track
TACOMA - Multiple school records fell for the Moses Lake girls track and field team during the 4A State Track Meet at Mt. Tahoma High School.
The Chiefs tied for 13th overall out of 48 total 4A schools.
Although Caylah Lunning failed to qualify for finals in the 100 meter dash, she did set a school record with a time of 12.36 seconds.
Lunning also took fifth place in the long jump with a mark of 17'5.75". A disappointing mark after crushing the school record with a jump of 18'11.75" at the Big Nine District Track Meet.
With the winning jump just over 18 feet, a mark close to Lunning's personal best would've won a state championship.
Alysha Overland was able to notch two top-five finishes at state.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Alysha was able to take third place with a time of 43.60 seconds.
She also took fifth place in the 400 meters with a time of 57.59 seconds.
Also, the 4x400 meter relay team of Arlena Hannan, Stephanie Overland, Casci Carpenter and Alysha broke the school record with a time of 3 minutes, 58.44 seconds.
The team placed fifth overall at the state meet.
Head girls track coach Nicki Weiland said the team will miss the leadership of seniors Lunning, Megan Roughan, Selina Koon and Kayla Grigg, but she is still excited about the returning athletes and the eighth graders arriving from Frontier and Chiefs Moses middle school.
