MOSES LAKE - Hundreds of Moses Lake kids tried their hand at fishing Saturday during the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation's Kids Fish-In event.

The event usually draws anywhere from 300 to 500 kids to Cascade Park each year, Vision 2020 chair Bill Ecret said. Vision 2020, along with the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Basin Walleye Club and other Basin groups and businesses, all help the city host the event.

Kids ages 5 to 14 are able to participate. They are provided with fishing poles and bait, and volunteers help them cast their lines and reel in their catch.

After they catch two fish, kids take them to get cleaned and then have their picture taken with their catch.

Before they fish, Ecret said children learn about water safety from Grant County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The event's goal is to introduce kids to one of the many ways they can enjoy the lake, he said.

"We want to get kids out to enjoy this great asset we have here in Moses Lake," he said.

Jaime Adamos said this was the first year she brought her son Ethan, 5, to the Fish-In.

"Neither me nor my husband fish, but he (Ethan) had a deep desire to go fishing," she said.

Adamos said it was nice to have volunteers on hand to help the kids.

Moses Lake resident Chris Linday brought his three children to Saturday's event. It was also their first time participating in the Fish-In, he said.

Linday said he and his wife haven't had an opportunity to go fishing in a while, so he decided to bring his kids.

"They're really excited to be here," he said.
