Edith M. Olsen

| July 31, 2014 6:00 AM

Edith M. Olsen went to heaven July 26, 2014. She was born in Shelly, Idaho on the family farm October 28, 1919. She married John Syver Olsen December 22, 1939 in Pocatello, Idaho. Her husband was a farmer.

She is survived by her four children; Lynn (MarthAnn) Olsen of Othello, Karen (Jim) Koubele of Algona, WA, Lee Olsen and friend, Paula Chapman, of Othello, Janet (Bill) Welch of Moses Lake, 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, three sisters; Jerry Whitmill of Idaho Falls, ID, Irene Adams of Richland, WA, Juanita Johnson of Woonsocket, SD, one brother, Jay (Barbara) Farrar of Spokane Valley, WA, sister-in-law Barbara Olsen of Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, John Syver Olsen, 2 brothers, Francis and Bill Farrar, and sister, Virginia Sherman.

In 1960, Edith became a charter member of the Othello Methodist Church. When the Methodist Church closed, she became a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Edith had worked hard all of her life. When living in Idaho, she worked on a potato digger during harvest. She had a large garden and canned everything, sewed her girl's clothes, was a 4-H leader, washed clothes with a wringer washer and raised 4 children.

After moving to Othello in 1957, she, again, worked on the potato digger during harvest season, worked at Reece's Bakery, and then at Potter Drug Store for 32 years. On weekends she and Syver would take their grandchildren camping. She was involved with Habitat for Humanity and the Senior Center and belonged to the Rebecca Lodge. After retiring, she baked all week and sold at the Farmer's Market on Saturdays. In the fall, she helped make quilts at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Edith loved windmills-anything with windmills, she collected. She also had a collection of Holstein cows. That was the farmer in her!

Edith touched many lives. Her biggest love was her family. Her face would light up when grandchildren would come to see her. That was how it was until the end of her life. She had so many people that cared so much for her.

Viewing and visitation will be at Stevens Funeral Chapel, in Othello, WA, Friday, August 1, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be at the Presbyterian Church, in Othello, WA, on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00am.
