Holmquist is the right choice for Congress

| July 18, 2014 6:00 AM

Doc Hastings' unexpected retirement has created a mad scramble of activity in central Washington amongst those who seek to succeed him. A high stakes game of musical chairs is the result.

Senator Janéa Holmquist, the most effective voice our area has had in Olympia in years, is hoping to replace Doc and serve as our congresswoman in Washington, D.C. I'm sorry to lose her as our senator. As effective and capable as she is and with all she accomplished for our part of the state, she is not the handpicked successor the Republican Party is backing. She must not have been an obedient servant of the party. She listens too much to her constituents instead of the well-entrenched Republican good old boys club. They have chosen to back a more compliant member of their club. He is polished, well-spoken and looks the part. Check, check and check. But I fear his first loyalty is to the party and its west side hierarchy, not us.

There are several candidates who have a lot of passion and want to return government back to the restrictions of the Constitution. Hooray! They surely aren't getting any of the good old boy support.

Space won't allow any real discussion of each candidate so look into them all. As for me, I'm backing the woman who rubs the good old boys the wrong way.

Vote for Senator Janéa Holmquist for United States Congress.
