TV show on state ag wins Telly Award

MOSES LAKE - "Washington Grown," a television show highlighting agriculture throughout the state, was recently put in the national and international spotlight.

The show received a Bronze Telly Award in the 2014 competition's Information category.

The Telly Awards, founded in 1978, is the premier award honoring the finest film and video productions, ground-breaking web commercials, videos and films, and outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs. This year, the organization received more than 13,000 entries from all 50 states and a handful of other countries.

"Washington Grown," produced by North by Northwest Productions, premiered on Northwest Cable News last fall. The show has also been airing on Spokane's PBS affiliate KSPS since January.

New "Washington Grown" episodes are currently in production. The show's second season will air this fall.

"We are thrilled that Washington Grown has been recognized by our creative peers in the industry, and that this collaboration with Washington Farmers and Ranchers has been so successful in its first season," David Tanner, the show's executive producer, said.

The Washington Grown campaign is a project of the Washington Farmers and Ranchers coalition, which is made up of groups across the state - including the Washington State Potato Commission, Washington Friends of Farms and Forests, Washington State Seed Potato Commission, Washington Wheat Foundation and Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

The show, just one aspect of the campaign, features 30-minute episodes based around various food commodities grown in the state. The program walks viewers through the process of how certain food items go from the farm to the table.

The show's goal is to connect the food people eat with the farmers who grow it.
