Ulbfit Sparkler Sprint a success

SOAP LAKE - Avid runners from around the Columbia Basin converged on Soap Lake over the holiday weekend for Ulbfit's Sparkler Sprint.

The race was divided between a 1 mile and a 5k. Due to construction, the 1 mile course had to be adjusted slightly which made for an actual course length of 1.12 miles.

Eric Olson took first place in the mile with a time of 6 minutes, 15.4 seconds. He was followed by Seth and Ella Olson who finished in second and third respectively.

Holly Wise and Lowgen Bennett rounded out the top five finishers.

Pat Kenworthy left with a win in the 5k after recorded a time of 18 minutes, 0.9 seconds.

Derek Wolf and Mykala Seresun followed in second and third place. Nate Blanchard finished fourth and Mark Kruegen finished fifth.

Ulbfit's next race, the Great Canoe Sprint, will be held July 26. The race consists of a 1 mile run/walk, a kayak or canoe ride, another 1.5 mile run/walk and then a short boat ride to the finish.
