Smokiam Days celebration Saturday

SOAP LAKE - Soap Lake residents are preparing to celebrate freedom Saturday with the town's annual Smokiam Days celebration.

Festivities begin at 8 a.m. with the ULBFIT Sparkler Sprint 1 mile and 5K walk/run. Both races start and finish at the parking lot at East Beach, now known as Smokiam Beach. The first place male and female finisher will each receive a prize.

A horseshoe tournament will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the horses park, formerly East Beach. Sign ups begin at 8:30 a.m. for the tournament.

The Smokiam Days Parade will make its way through downtown Soap Lake starting at 11 a.m.

Community members can enjoy Applewood-smoked sockeye salmon during the Salmon BBQ from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Notaras Lodge Lawn.

The Sammy Steele Band will perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Smokiam RV Park and Campground, as part of the park's grand re-opening.
